Cops nab SK member in Iloilo for shooting a minor
POLICE have arrested and jailed a member of the Sangguniang Kabataan in Dumangas, Iloilo for shooting a minor with a paltik shotgun last Tuesday, a Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 report said Thursday.
The SK councilman is now facing criminal charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 and serious physical injuries.
PRO 6 chief Brigadier General Sydney N. Villaflor said an investigation conducted by the Dumangas Municipal Police Station showed that the accused, identified as Radnie, took a home-made shotgun in his room to clean the weapon at around 3:00 p.m. Tuesday. The suspect is a resident of Barangay Paloc Bigque in Dumangas.
However, the weapon went off shortly after the SK official reportedly dropped the shotgun on the floor.
Shrapnel hit the head of the young victim who was then playing with his toy gun.
The accused fled the scene but was arrested by the police in a hot pursuit operation. Officers also recovered a piece of cloth used by the suspect to clean the crime scene.
