VALENZUELA CITY – Police arrested on Thursday evening a member of the notorious “Basag Kotse” gang after breaking the glass window of a barangay councilman’s vehicle and stealing P50,000 inside.

Valenzuela Police Station Investigation Unit (SIU) Chief P/Lt. Robin Santos identified the arrested suspect as Robert Leonardo, 58, of Aquarius St. Gremville Subdivision I, Bagbaguin, Caloocan City.

The suspect was arrested after he was seen on CCTV (closed-circuit television) camera leaving Parada Road, Fortune 5, Bgy. Parada where a Mitsubishi Montero owned by Bgy. councilman and businessman Jim Agustin Ajero, 47, was parked unattended.

Case investigators PSSgt. Juliis Congson and P/Cpl. Julius Bernardo said the smashed window of the vehicle was noticed by Redentor Pepito Ordoño, 48, caretaker, Thursday morning at 7:55 prompting him to inform Kagawad Ajero who immediately sought police assistance.

Elements of SIU immediately conducted a follow-up operation and with the help of the footage taken by a CCTV camera in the area and information they gathered from their asset, operatives were able to arrest the suspect in Bgy. Bagbaguin, Caloocan City at around 8:00 p.m.

Lt. Santos said his men recovered from the suspect Ajero’s ID, a blue polo shirt he was wearing during the commission of the crime, P280 cash, a flat screwdriver, tire wrench, a Sandisk USB, and flashlight.

The suspect was presented for inquest proceedings before the Valenzuela City Prosecutor’s Office for the theft case.
