AUTHORITIES are investigating if there was foul play in the death of a police captain who allegedly accidentally shot himself in the head in his parked vehicle in San Pascual, Batangas on Tuesday.

San Pascual Municipal Police Station chief Capt Jojo Salanguit identified the victim as Capt. Rjoval Lopez, 36, single, of Bgy. Del Pilar, in San Pascual.

The victim was assigned to the Philippine National Police Communications and Electronics Service in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Lopez’s sister, Marshel Gauang, said prior to Capt. Rjoval’s death, she saw him heading towards his Mitsubishi Lancer car parked on the side of the road near his house at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Moments later, she approached the vehicle to check on her brother, who was seated at the driver’s seat, and checked his service firearm.

Marshel said her brother always made sure that his gun was on “safe” mode before entering the house because they have young nephews living along with them.

The sister said she was shocked when she saw her brother accidentally fire his service firearm while holding it.

The cop incurred a gunshot wound in the head, which caused his instant death.
