Construction worker shot dead in Batangas

A CONSTRUCTION worker was shot dead by an unidentified suspect while riding his bicycle in Tanauan City, Batangas the other day.

Tanauan City Police Station (CPS) top cop PLt. Col. Ariel B. Azurin identified the victim as Romeo Cortuna Espiritu.

A telephone call from the security guard of CP Reyes Hospital was received around 5:45 p.m. by the Tanauan CPS personnel informing them that a man with suspected gunshot wounds in the body was admitted in the hospital.

Investigators said the victim was seen riding a bicycle and was about to leave the premises when suddenly, an unidentified suspect wielded a short firearm, approached and fired several shots hitting Cortuna in different parts of the body.

Cortuna fell to the ground with no signs of breathing, said some witnesses.

The suspect fled on foot towards an unknown direction carrying the weapon.

Dragnet operation was requested for the possible identity and apprehension of the suspect.

The Scene of the Crime Operative technicians processed the scene.
