Concern for elderly

SENATOR Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian has called for the establishment of more homes for the country’s elderly.

Gatchalian issued the call after noting the increasing number of abandoned senior citizens across the Philippines.

Like Gatchalian, we believe that there’s that need for the state to look into the possibility of LGU-managed homes for the aged.

The millions of senior citizens, particularly the poor, abandoned and sickly, belong to one of the special sectors of society.

Without doubt, the mushrooming number of unattended, neglected and homeless elderlies could not be ignored.

Certainly, it is disheartening to see these aged Filipinos on the streets and public plazas, some of them begging for alms.

Gatchalian asked the National Commission of Senior Citizens to spearhead the campaign to help the nation’s senior citizens.

Recently, the senator from Valenzuela City filed Senate Bill (SB) No. 950 or the “Homes for Abandoned Seniors.”

Under the proposed piece of legislation. LGUs would be tasked to established nursing homes for abandoned senior citizens.

“It is our duty to ensure that our elderlies have comfortable homes and are receiving proper care,” Senator Gatchalian said.

Dapat alalayan natin ang mga taong tumulong para mapabilis ang socio-economic development ng ating bansa.
