THE newly-installed government of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. should be commended for giving priority to bringing down the prices of goods and services.

Hopefully, the two-chamber Congress institutes remedial pieces of legislation aimed at ensuring the prices of goods don’t go beyond the reach of the poorest of the poor.

The availability of cheap but quality goods, particularly medicines, food and other essential commodities, is a must if the Filipino people are to survive, according to observers.

Unfortunately, there are still traders and businessmen who overprice their products not only in the impoverished countryside but throughout the Philippines.

With many jobless and underemployed people, we cannot overemphasize the importance of the people’s help in the campaign to bring down the costs of goods and services.

“Kailangang iparating sa mga kinaukulang ahensiya ng gobyerno kung may mga nangyayaring profiteering at hoarding sa kani-kanilang mga opisina,” a local economist said.

Thus, it is only proper for the people, especially the beleaguered citizens, to report to government agencies tasked to protect the interest of the country’s consumers.

By going after hoarders, profiteers and othr erring traders, the government is on track addressing the many problems confronting the country’s consumers.

In the view of various quarters, the authorities ought to implement policies in the areas of money, banking, and credit, with the main objective of preserving price stability.

Price stability refers to a condition of low and stable inflation. By keeping prices stable, the government ensures strong economic growth and better living standards.
