THE Commission on Elections annnounced that the number of registered voters for the May 2022 presidential polls have already surpassed 60 million.

During the launch of voter registration at SM Supermalls, Comelec spokesman James Jimenez registered voters already hit 61.06 million.

Jimenez said the figures are as of July and are still expected to increase.

The voter registration period is until September 30, 2021. However, voter registration activities are suspended in areas under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and modified ECQ.

While it rejected calls to extend the voter registration deadline to October 31, 2021, the Comelec has extended registration hours starting last Monday, Aug. 23.

The modified registration schedule is now from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Monday to Friday. The previous schedule was from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Meanwhile, the poll body also opened voter registration on Saturday and during holidays, which will have a schedule of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
