COA lawyer dies, 11 hurt as BFP van falls off cliff in Cotabato

A FEMALE lawyer on Tuesday died while 11 others were injured after a service vehicle of the Bureau of Fire Protection – Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BFP-BARMM) fell off ravine in North Cotabato.

BFP-BARMM director Sr. Supt. Jerry Lamanero identified the lawyer as Minerva Sacar-Guiling of the Commission on Audit-BARMM.

The injured were another COA staff member, and 10 personnel of the BFP-BARMM . They were rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Lamanero said the road mishap occurred on the highway in Bgy. Barangiran in Alamada, North Cotabato.

Alamada town police chief Maj. Brian Espinoza said the victims were on the BFP-BARMMM coaster service van on their way to Cotabato City from a site inspection in Wao, Lanao del Sur when they met the accident at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

An investigation showed the brakes of the van malfunctioned causing the driver to lose control of the van while negotiating the steep portion of the road until they plunged into the 20-meter deep cliff.

Witnesses rushed the victims to the nearest hospital, where the lawyer died while being treated.
