2 ‘rape’ suspects fall in manhunt ops

A MAN tagged as the 2nd “most wanted person” (MWP) in the Caraga region was captured by agents of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) in a manhunt operation in Bislig City in Surigao del Sur, PNP-CIDG Director Brigadier General Romeo M. Caramat Jr. said Monday.

The suspect, a 37-year-old driver, wanted for murder and frustrated murder charges, was arrested along Marketsite in Barangay Mangagoy in Bislig City on Sunday.

Caramat said Judge Jacquiline Ongpauco-Cortel of the Surigao City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 29 issued the warrants for the arrest of the accused on October 14 last year.

The judge recommended no bail for the temporary liberty of the suspect in connection with the murder case filed against him.

Caramat said that members of the CIDG Surigao del Sur Provincial Field Unit (PFU) tracked down the suspect with the support of the local police.

In a related development, Caramat announced the capture of two most wanted “rape” suspects following separate manhunt operations in the country.

He said that the suspects respectively tagged as the no. 1 MWP in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon) region and the 8th most wanted in the Mimaropa (Mindoro Occidental, Mindoro Oriental, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan) region.

Caramat said that the Calabarzon’s MWP was tracked down in his hiding place in Bgy. Little Baguio in Malita, Davao Occidental, by members of the CIDG Region 11 Office and the local police.

Judge Janice Udarbe of the Imus City RTC Br. 22 in Cavite issued a non-bailable warrant of arrest against Bacal on November 18 last year.

On the other hand, Mimaropa MWP was arrested in Bgy. Rizal, Rizal, Occidental Mindoro by local CIDG officers on the strength of a warrant for three counts of rape issued by Judge Ruben Sevillano Jr. of the San Jose, Occidental Mindoro RTC Br. 45 last February 28.

The two are set to be presented to the court for issuance of official jail commitment order, the PNP-CIDG director said.
