PHILIPPINE National Police’s (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Director Brigadier General Romeo M. Caramat Jr., on Thursday, announced the capture of two of the country’s “most wanted persons” (MWPs) following separate CIDG-led manhunt operations in the countryside.

In a report to PNP Chief Gen. Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., the official said the arrested suspects, one tagged as the top MWP in Cagayan Valley and one is described as the most wanted man in Socsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos) region.

“The arrests were made in line with our intensified effort to account for most wanted persons in the country this year to prevent them from committing more crimes,” said Caramat.

According to the PNP-CIDG director, the 30-year-old MWP in Cagayan Valley was arrested by his men in Barangay Taboc in Pontavedra, Capiz, at 7 p.m. last Tuesday.

With the support of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 2 and PRO 6, the PNP-CIDG operatives arrested the suspect on the strength of a warrant of arrest for rape issued by Judge Jezarene Aquino of the Tuguegarao City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 10.

The court recommended no bail for the temporary liberty of the accused.

On the other hand, Caramat said the 59-year-old most wanted, a resident of Bgy. Poblacion in Buluan, Maguindanao was arrested by CIDG operatives based on a warrant for statutory rape and murder issued by Judge Lorna Santiago-Avila of the Tacurong City RTC Br. 20 in Sultan Kudarat.

The official said that the suspect resisted arrest and engaged his men in a brief gunfight before being subdued.

A loaded caliber .45 semi-automatic pistol with two magazines containing 11 live ammunition was recovered from the suspect’s possession.

Caramat said that the suspect is now facing a separate case for violating the Republic Act (RA) 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013.
