A ROMAN Catholic priest accused of “mocking” the apparitions of the Virgin Mary during a conference in Lipa City, Batangas, was arrested by agents of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) on orders of the court, the head of the unit said on Wednesday.

Father Winston Cabading of the Archdiocese of Manila Office of Exorcism was placed under arrest on the strength of a warrant for violation of Article 133 of the Revised Penal Code, otherwise known as “Offending Religious Feelings” issued by Judge Madonna Echiverri of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 81 last May 8, said PNP-CIDG director, Brigadier General Romeo M. Caramat Jr.

The court asked the priest to pay P18,000 in bail for his temporary liberty.

Caramat said that the priest was arrested by members of the CIDG Southern District Field Unit (SDFU) headed by Lieutenant Colonel Niño Briones inside the St. Mary Magdalene House in Caleruega Road in Barangay Batulao in Nasugbu, Batangas.

The priest was brought to the CIDG SDFU for documentation pending his presentation to the court.

“CIDG will be fair in giving the truth regardless of the status of the offenders, but our law will prevail if you are guilty,” Caramat said.
