AGENTS of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) arrested a member of the Maute Group in a raid in Masiu, Lanao del Sur this week, PNP-CIDG director Major General Romeo M. Caramat Jr. said on Saturday.

PNP-CIDG operatives arrested Acmad Casim, also known as alias ’Batang Criminal,’ in his hiding place in Barangay Lakadun in Masiu, the official said.

Caramat said that the suspect was arrested based on an arrest warrant for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 issued by Judge Alberto Quinto of the Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte Regional Trial Court Branch 21.

Two other targets of the raid, Aminola Casim and Pandi Dimaocom Mama, were able to escape during the operation.

A Para Ordnance caliber .45 semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing two live ammunitions was recovered during the arrest of the suspect.

The CIDG chief also said Casim has also a warrant of arrest for murder issued by Judge Rasad Balindong of the Malabang, Lanao del Sur RTC Branch 11.

Casim is among the heavily armed members of the Maute Group who sieged Marawi City Siege in 2017. The fierce battle lasted for over eight months and left more than 1,200 people dead.
