A 29-YEAR-OLD woman accused of recruiting New People’s Army (NPA) members in Southern Mindanao is now in jail after being arrested by agents of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) this week, PNP-CIDG Director Brigadier General Ronald O. Lee said.

The suspect with the alias “Rhea” was arrested in Barangay Mapaang in Maco, Davao de Oro, last Tuesday by members of the CIDG Davao City Field Unit and the Army’s 1001st Brigade and the Military Intelligence Group 11, said the official.

Lee said that the accused was placed under arrest on the strength of warrants for three counts of violation of Republic Act (RA) 9851 or the Philippine Act on Crimes Against International Humanitarian Law, Genocide, and Other Crimes Against Humanity and six counts of violation of RA 10364 or the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012.

The warrants were issued by Judge Lope Calio of the Davao City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 33 on March 22, 2021.

Lee said that their record check showed that the suspect used to be a former liaison, intelligence staff, and a member of the Regional Instructor’s Bureau of the CPP (Communist Party of the Philippines)/NPA Southern Mindanao Regional Committee.

The CIDG said they had received information that the suspect had been monitored previously to be recruiting minors belonging to the United Church of Christ in the Philippines in Mindanao.

Considered a “high-security risk,” the suspect has been placed under the custody of the Philippine Army, said.

The arrest of the suspect came in the wake of the CIDG’s stepped-up legal offensive against the CPP/NPA/NDF (National Democratic Front) ordered by PNP Chief Gen. Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr.
