TITLEHOLDER Arellano University rediscovered its winning ways with a 27-29, 25-20, 25-15, 25-18 conquest of Lyceum of the Philippines University to seize solo second in the NCAA women’s volleyball yesterday at the Paco Arena.

With Kristine Adante starting as setter, the Lady Chiefs got their offensive production going with Trina Abay leading four players in twin digits with 16 points.

Princess Bello hammered 15 kills and collected 15 digs while Nicole Sasuman and Carla Donato contributed 10 points apiece for Arellano, which kept within reach of undefeated College of Saint Benilde at 3-1.

Earlier, University of Perpetual Help System Dalta hammered out a 25-21, 25-17, 25-7 victory over Emilio Aguinaldo College to gain a piece of third place.

Janeth Tulang came through with 19 points, including four blocks, while Denise Dolorito chipped in 11 kills for the Lady Pirates, who dropped to 2-2 slate.

Challenged in the first two sets, the Lady Altas hardly threatened in the third, racing to a 9-0 advantage and never looked back to post their first back-to-back win under new coach Sandy Rieta.

Perpetual moved in a four-way tie with San Sebastian, Jose Rizal University and Mapua at 2-1.

The presence of the school’s volleyball program head Sammy Acaylar, who won a championship during the Lady Altas’ three-peat run in 2014, uplifted the morale of the Las Piñas-based squad.

“Siyempre added motivation. Siyempre, big boost sa amin kasi coach ko din siya nung player pa ako sa Perpetual,” said Rieta.

Razel Aldea had three blocks to finish with 12 points, Mary Rhose Dapol added 11 points and seven digs while Janine Padua scored two of her 10 points from service aces for the Lady Altas.

Perpetual rookie libero Catherine Lim collected 30 digs while setter Jenny Gaviola produced 14 excellent sets.

Krizzie Reyes dropped 11 kills for the Lady Generals, who have lost three in a row.
