Chess champions at Sports on Air

IT’S all about chess and the men and women who made the country proud in this week’s 50th episode of “Sports on Air” via Zoom.

Newly-crowned National Women’s chess champion WIM Marie Antoinette San Diego and Asian Seniors champion IM Jose Efren Bagamasbad will share their success stories during the 10 a.m. online sports program.

Joining them are Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) president-commissioner Atty. Paul Elauria and the finalists in the PCAP Third (Open) Conference scheduled this weekend.

San Diego, the 23-year-old pride of Dasmariñas, Cavite emrged as the undisputed champion in the Philippine National Women’s Chess Championship held at the PACE Bldg. in Quezon City.

Sa Diego finished unbeaten in the 11-round tournament, scoring 10.5 points on 10 wins and one draw.

Bagamasbad made the country proid by topping the 2022 Asian Senior Chess Championship held in Auckland, New Zealand.

The 66-year-old Bagamasbad, who hails from Talisay, Camarines Norte, became the country’s newest International Master with his achievement.

This will be the 50th episode of “Sports On Air”, the hottest and most comprehensive sports talk show on air.
