Charge negligent car dealers
LAND Transportation Office (LTO) chief Asst. Secretary Vigor Mendoza II urged vehicle owners and clients to file a complaint against car dealers who fail to register newly-bought vehicles within the prescribed period.
A total of 1,046 dealers were issued a show-cause order (SCO) in 2024 for not complying with the seven-day period after the transaction was completed in motor vehicle dealerships.
According to Mendoza, despite repeated reminders of the need to strictly follow the rules, some motor vehicle dealers seem to ignore the order and are still non-compliant and negligent.
“Yung matindi dito ay yung ibang car dealers, sa kagustuhang magpalusot sa mga kliyente nila, ay ang LTO ang itinuturong may kasalanan.
Hindi ito tama kaya we encourage our clients to file a complaint before us,” he added.
The LTO chief pointed out that it has been the agency’s mandate under the Citizen’s Charter to register newly bought vehicles in one week.
The intensified monitoring of compliance is part of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista’s instruction to make all the transactions fast and comfortable.
Records showed that of the 1,046 SCOs issued, 21 of them where already fined after being found negligent during the investigation.
Mendoza said that 14 were fined P20,000; two got a P30,000 fine; and five with a P100,000 fine.
A total of 80 were already submitted for resolution while the rest are still under investigation.
Mendoza said he already issued an instruction to expedite the resolution of all the cases involving violations of the registration of newly bought motor vehicles.
