Cayetano gains support in latest Pulse Asia poll with eco-friendly campaign
DESPITE running an eco-friendly campaign that uses no printed materials and no motorcades, former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano maintained his high ranking in the latest survey on senatorial preferences by Pulse Asia.
Released on Wednesday, April 6, the March 2022 survey results showed Cayetano ranking second to fifth among all senatorial candidates.
The survey showed Cayetano getting 56.4 percent of votes from participants, which is a 1.4 increase from Pulse Asia’s February 2022 survey. The former Speaker also has an awareness of 99 percent among voters despite having no posters or tarpaulins and not mounting motorcades.
“Nagpapasalamat ako Panginoon because He is honoring our commitment to protecting the environment,” Cayetano said.
“When we mounted our eco-friendly, lead-by-example campaign in February, we knew we would face major challenges. In the sea of flyers and posters, our name would not be seen among the candidates in every corner of the country,” he added.
Cayetano said he still decided to continue the new style of campaigning because he did not want to add to the election-related waste that is generated every three years.
“I think the survey results have been consistent in showing that the people appreciate and support our commitment to our cause. Hindi kasi ito pulitika, ito ay paraan para mapangalagaan ang ating kalikasan na malapit sa puso ng mga Pilipino,” he said.
Cayetano also thanked his supporters for helping him in his campaign, volunteering to mount bike caravans and coastal clean-ups that further pushed his eco-friendly advocacy.
According to Pulse Asia, the survey fieldwork was conducted from March 17 – 21, 2022 using face-to-face interviews.
The nationwide survey was based on a sample of 2,400 representative adults 18 years old and above and has a ± 2% error margin at the 95% confidence level, the survey firm added.
