In commemoration of the country’s 123rd Independence Day, the seven cities and 16 municipalities in Cavite led by Kawit town raised the national flag simultaneously at 8 o’clock in the morning on June 12, 2021, with this year’s theme “Kalayaan 2021: Diwa ng Kalayaan sa Pagkakaisa at Paghilom ng Bayan.”

A simple program was held at the shrine of General Emilio Aguinaldo, the country’s first president, in Bgy. Kaingen, led by his great grandchild Mayor Angelo Emilio Aguinaldo, with Cavite 1st Board Member Romel Enriquez, representing Cavite Provincial Governor Juanito Victor ‘Jonvic’ Remulla Jr., and National Historical Commissioner Dr. Emmanuel Calairo.

Mayor Aguinaldo together with the officers of the Philippine Navy led the flag raising at the historic balcony and wreath laying rites from President Rodrigo Duterte at the grave of the late hero behind the mansion.

This event was implemented with limited people to follow the health protocols. This marked the second year of celebrating the Freedom Day amid the pandemic.

In General Trias City, Mayor Antonio Ferrer together with Police Lt. Colonel Norman Rañon, local police chief, and other local government officials led the flag rites in the city esplanade in Bgy. Bagumbayan.

In Noveleta town, Mayor Dino Chua and local officials led the flag raising at the town plaza and wreath laying at the historic Tribunal House in Bgy. Poblacion.

After the rites, activist groups Bayan and League of Filipino Students-Cavite held protests at the corner of Medicion Road in Bgy. Binakayan, around 1 kilometer away from the Freedom Park of the shrine of the said town to air their sentiments to the Duterte administration.
