SENATE President Francis “Chiz” Escudero said he will consult with majority senators regarding Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel’s proposal to hold an all-member caucus and start the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte ahead of schedule.

Pimentel had suggested that the Senate could proceed with the trial during recess, arguing that the process should move forward without delay.

However, Escudero emphasized the need to consult his colleagues in the majority before making any decision.

“Will consult the others if they want to and if they are available,” Escudero said, indicating that the views of the majority will play a key role in determining the next steps.

Despite his willingness to hold discussions, Escudero disagreed with Pimentel’s assertion that the Senate can start the trial while not in session.

The Senate President has maintained that the impeachment trial must adhere to proper legal procedures to avoid potential challenges. With the Senate set to resume on June 2, Escudero reiterated that any major decision regarding the trial should be made with the full participation of the majority senators.
