A 41-YEAR-OLD resident of Benguet was arrested by the local police for possession and distribution of counterfeit medicines last week, Cordillera Police Regional Office director, Brigadier General Ronald O. Lee said on Monday.

Suspect Edilberto Traboco alias “Edel”, a resident of Bgy. Bulalacao in Mankayan, Benguet yielded a huge volume of various fake medicines including antibiotics, pain relievers, mucolytic, and paracetamol when arrested last Wednesday by local policemen who raided his residence.

He is now facing charges for violation of Republic Act 8203 or the Special Law on Counterfeit Drugs.

Brig. Gen. Lee said that the arrest of the suspect was in line with the directive of Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Dionardo B. Carlos to go all-out against crime syndicates engaged in the illegal sale, production, and distribution of fake medicines in the country.

“The PNP’s intensified crusade against hoarders and peddlers of counterfeit medicines is fully in line with President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s pronouncements of going after criminal groups taking advantage of the COVID-19 situation in the country. We are gaining ground in this drive and we shall not rest until all these criminals are brought to justice,” Gen. Carlos said as he commended the Cordillera police force for making the arrest.
