Canteen owner gunned down

CAMP OLIVAS, City of San Fernando, Pampanga – Motorcycle-riding armed men on Wednesday shot dead a canteen owner in Talavera, Nueva Ecija.

Slain was Edwin Balmeo, 62, a a resident of Bgy. Bakal II.

The gun attack occurred in Purok 1, Bgy. Bakal II, Talavera, Nueva Ecija.

Talavera police chief Maj. Domingo Resma said the victim was standing inside his eatery store when the suspects on a plateless motorcycle arrived and without any apparent reason shot the victim twice in the head.

The suspects fled towards the south direction of the town.

Meanwhile, in Balanga, Bataan, Daniel Cagara alias “Babsi,” 39, a caretaker, and a resident of Bgy. Cupang Proper, Balanga City, was shot dead by two unidentified male suspects.

The victim’s live-in partner, Catherine Maningat Bon, told Balanga police commander Lt. Col. Sonia Alvarez that Cagara was outside repairing their electric generator when the two suspects suddenly appeared and shot the victim several times causing his instantaneous death.

The suspects fled on foot after the killing.

Police are conducting follow-up operations to identify the suspects and their motive for the attack.
