CALMAY BRIDGE TO RISE AGAIN
After 90 years
THE most awaited bridge that will cross the wide Calmay River in Dagupan City will soon be constructed.
Its groundbreaking rites was held last December 20 in Barangay Calmay, and was led by Pangasinan 4th District Rep. Christopher de Venecia, who worked for the project’s funding.
De Venecia thanked President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez for their continued support for projects that directly benefit the Dagupeños, such as the new Calmay Bridge that connects downtown Dagupan to Brgy. Calmay and then to Binmaley, all the way to southern Lingayen.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Dagupan City Mayor Belen Fernandez, former congresswoman Gina de Venecia and officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The Franklin Bridge that used to connect the island barangay of Calmay to Poblacion Oeste and the Dagupan downtown area was washed out by a big flood in 1935.
The Calmay Bridge project, worth P1.8375 billion, is expected to be completed in 2026.
