Calabarzon top cop honors slain lawman in Batangas
CAMP VICENTE LIM, Canlubang, Calamba, Laguna – Police Regional Office 4A (Calabarzon) Director Brig. Gen. Eliseo DC Cruz paid his last respect to a policeman killed in line of duty in Bauan, Batangas.
Cruz awarded the Medalya ng Kadakilaan (Posthumous Award) to Cpl. Reynan Manalo, a member of the Bauan Municipal Police Station, who was killed in an armed confrontation with suspect Jollyben Galin Montoya at Sitio Tubog, Bgy. San Teodoro, Bauan town on New Year’s Day.
The Calabarzon top cop also gave financial assistance to the slain police officer’s family as he extended his condolences to them.
In a report submitted to Bauan Municipal Police Station police chief Lt. Col. Karlos Lanuza, the local police received a call about an attempted stabbing incident at Sitio Tubog.
Members of the Bauan Police Patrol Section led by Manalo immediately responded.
Despite attempts of negotiation, the suspect suddenly assaulted Manalo, prompting the victim to shoot the approaching suspect.
The policeman lost his balance and fell on the ground.
The armed suspect was able to reach Manalo and stabbed him in the chest and different parts of his body.
Two other members of the Bauan police shot the suspect, that caused his instantaneous death.
The suspect died while being rushed to the hospital while the cop-victim died while being treated.
“This incident pains me. Isang matapang at matapat na pulis na naman ang nalagas sa aming hanay dahil sa pagganap sa kanyang sinumpaang tungkulin. Nakikiramay po ako sa pamilya ng naiwan. Nawa ay malampasan ninyo ang pagsubok na ito at maging matatag kayo,” Cruz said.
Cruz reminded police officers in the field to always be vigilant and alert during police operations.
