Cagayan logs 6 dengue deaths

SIX people died in Cagayan due to dengue, the Cagayan Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) reported yesterday.

According to the CESU, the six dengue deaths were from the municipalities of Lasam, Baggao, Gattaran, Iguig and Solana.

The CESU said that as of yesterday, there is a total of 2,477 dengue cases in the province, with Tuguegarao City having the highest number of cases at 300; followed by Lasam, 201; Solana, 202; Tuao, 200; Baggao,190; Gattaran, 187; Piat, 129, and Aparri, with 103.

Other towns with high dengue cases were Abulug, 74; Alcala, 97; Ballesteros, 79; Gonzaga, 58; Lal-lo, 72; Pamplona, 95; Peñablanca, 64; and Sanchez Mira, 61.

The municipalities with low dengue cases were the Buguey, 21; Camalaniugan, 45; Claveria, 17; Iguig, 28; Rizal, 46; Sta. Ana, 43; Sta. Praxedes, 8; Sta. Teresita, 28; and Sto. Niño, 28.

The island municipality of Calayan has recorded zero dengue case.

Dr. Rhea Daquilan, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Health Office (PHO), said they are continuously conducting dengue prevention and elimination activities such as residual spraying in communities, search and destroy operations, and regular clean-up drives.

She urged everyone to become prime movers in controlling mosquito population and avoiding any possible dengue deaths within the community.
