The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) assures the public that it will continue to exert extra efforts to provide a safe, secure, and convenient travel experience to Filipino and foreign commuters alike.

A new memorandum aiming to boost its airports’ approach towards the facilitation of arriving passengers was issued and through the directive, CAAP-operated airports are enjoined to immediately enforce measures to ensure that honest assistance is provided to our Kababayans. CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio said these measures include the immediate reporting and intervention in matters involving any misconduct or corrupt practices at the airport, such as mulcting, theft, robbery, illegal operation of shuttle services and overpricing of fares and accommodation, among others. Through the initiative, CAAP hopes to prevent dishonesty and profiteering acts in its airports and maintain only the administration of legitimate service to passengers passing through its airports. Still at the airport, the decision to go ‘paperless’ as far as the operations for the NAIA one -stop-shop in charge of returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) is concerned, is being welcomed by the OFWs. The said paperless operations is currently on its trial period, under the “One Health Pass” program. Under the system, there will just be a single registration for the Bureau Of Quarantine (BOQ), health declaration, hotel booking, E-CIF, immigration, OWWA,MARINA and passengers’ undertaking.

In a report to Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) general manager Ed Monreal, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) assigned at the NAIA terminal 2, commander Edyson Abanilla, said OFWs who are scheduled to go home are being encouraged to register before their flight to Manila https://www.onehealthpass.com.ph/e-HDC/.

Abanilla said the adjustment period beginning August 23,2021 will last for a week. During this period, there will be an integration of all registration toward paperless processes.

Among the passengers who lauded the new system are the 108 Filipinos who were flown from India via a special recovery flight organized and chartered by the national government, in collaboration with Cebu Pacific and the Philippine Embassy in New Delhi, in response to the request of several Overseas Filipino Workers to be brought home while the travel ban is still in place.

Testing and Quarantine facilities were shouldered by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

Monreal said majority of those assisted were land-based OFW, seafarers and other Overseas Filipinos stranded amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Myan Hagosojos-Genavia, one of the returning overseas Filipinos assisted by the OSS, stated om her social media post how fast the process went as she arrived at NAIA. She commended members of the OSS, whom she described as “nice and smart” and also admired the works of the “young and techy” OSS personnel serving at the verification booths.
