Bulldogs extend winning streak

UAAP champion National University extended its winning streak to seven games by sweeping Asian Institute of Maritime Studies, in straight sets 25-14, 25-17, 25-16, for the solo lead in the Philippine University Volleyball League (PUVL) at TUP gym in Manila.

Led by national team member Angelo Nicholas Almendras and Ave Joshua Retamar, the Bulldogs needed only 53 minutes of play to beat the Blue Sharks and remain undefeated in this nine-team tournament organized by Federation of School Sports Athletic Association (FESSAP).

With Almendras, Jenngerald Diao, Kennry Malinis, Michaelo Buddin, Rwenzmel Taguibolos and Retamar doing most of the damage, the Sampaloc-based squad finished off the Blue Sharks in the third set.

The Bulldogs, who are being handled by assistant coach Ariel, will try to sweep the elimination round when they meet Mapua tomorow in the last day of elimination.

NCAA champion University of Perpetual Help Dalta System is in second place with a 7-1 win-loss card.

In the women’s division, Immaculada Conception College defeated New Era University, 25-6, 25-13, 25-12, for its fifth win in seven outings for third place behind UPHDS and Mapua.

Airah Tutanes, Jhem San Juan, Christine Joy Apan, Jhuelle Labago, Marjorie Orpilla and Angelica shone for the coach Edgar Barroga-mentored Lady Blue Hawks.

The champion will represent the country in the upcoming Asian regional meets.

In the other men’s action, Mapua downed New Era University, 25-23, 25-17, 25-16, and Technological University of the Philippines outclassed Bataan Peninsula State University, 21-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-22.

The Cardinals of coach John Michael Millado registered their sixth win in seven games for third place.

The Grayhawks postedtheir fourth win in seven game to assure themselves the No. 4 spot.

The top four team will advance to the semifinals with No. 1 battles the No. 4 and No. 2 will face No. 3, the top two team will meet in winner-take- all title match. AA
