BuCor offers mass for PDLs who died during incarceration
IN observance of All Souls’ Day, the Bureau of Corrections offered simultaneous mass offerings in various operating and prison farms for persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) who died during their incarceration.
Bucor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. also ordered his superintendents for the placement of one big wreath for the departed PDLs in their respective areas of jurisdiction to symbolize unity and solidarity in remembering those who have passed away while in detention.
This reflected a sense of empathy and respect for the departed individuals under BuCor’s care, Catapang added.
Catapang’s directive included the lighting of candles during the mass celebrations, giving emphasis on the 20 PDLs whose bodies were not claimed by their relatives and recently buried by Bucor at the NBP Cemetery.
“Nakakaawa naman dahil may 20 PDLs na pinalibing natin kamakailan sa NBP Cemetery ang hindi na madadalaw ng kanilang pamilya kaya inatasan natin si NBP Superintendent, Chief Inspector, Roger Boncales na magtirik ng kandila sa puntod ng bawat isa sa kanila, “ Catapang added.
Since Nov. 9, 2022 to date under the leadership of Catapang, there are a total of 384 unclaimed PDL cadavers buried at the NBP Cemetery from Nov. 9, 2022 to date including the 20 buried last October 24.
Earlier, Catapang had also instructed the facilitation of supervised video calls for PDLs at the NBP in Muntinlupa City from November 1 to November 2. This effort allowed the PDLs an opportunity to virtually connect with their families and pay tribute to their departed loved ones during the observance of these important days through electronic means.
