IMMIGRATION agents have arrested last Thursday a Briton who is reportedly involved in sex-related crimes in his home country.

Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Norman Tansingco identified the Briton as William Hughes, 79.

Hughes was already bound for Doha, Qatar when Immigration operatives intercepted him at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.

Border Control and Intelligence Unit (BCIU) Head Dennis Alcedo said that Hughes arrived in the Philippines last May 16, 2023 as a tourist.

The BI later received information from the United Kingdom National Crime Agency that the 79-year-old Briton was convicted for committing inciting or causing prostitution for gain involving a child 13 to 17 years.

Hughes is also reportedly in the UK’s Sex Offenders’ register for life.

Following the information, the BI initiated deportation proceedings against Hughes.

“Sex offenders who might prey on our children are not welcome in the Philippines. These illegal aliens do not deserve our country’s hospitality and they will be sent out and blacklisted,” he added.
