CAMP GENERAL ALEJO S. SANTOS, City of Malolos, Bulacan — The 12-year-old son of a policeman yesterday died after he accidentally shot himself in their school in Bgy. Muzon, City of San Jose Del Monte.

A report to Bulacan police director Col. Relly Arnedo said the victim was a Grade 6 student of Benito Nieto Elementary School in Bgy. Muzon.

The accidental shooting occurred around 5:40 a.m. Thursday inside the comfort room of the school.

An investigation by Cpl. Dexter Mabatas showed that the issued firearm of the victim’s father, a police officer currently assigned at Camp Crame, was taken by the boy to the school.

The boy apparently played with the gun that suddenly went off, hitting him in the chin.

The bullet went through the victim’s nasal area.

Teachers rushed the boy to a nearby hospital, and was later transferred to Skyline Hospital for further medical intervention.

The victim was in a critical condition from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday when he was admitted to the hospital. Around 10 a.m., doctors declared that he was already in a stable condition until 12 noon.

After the victim was subjected to a CT scan, it was found out that there was still a shrapnel embedded in his brain.

The boy was declared dead at around 1 p.m. by his attending physician, Dr. Denato Tongol.
