AMID destabilization rumors, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has urged the military and the police to unite and continue its support for the government and President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s administration.

“Ako nga po, hinihikayat ko ang ating mga kasundaluhan at kapulisan na suportahan po natin ang ating Pangulong (Ferdinand) Marcos (Jr),” said Go during an ambush interview after attending the inauguration of a multipurpose building in Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City.

“Inihalal po s’ya ng bayan at ginagawa naman po n’ya ang lahat at nagtatrabaho po s’ya. Nakita n’yo naman po napakasipag po ng ating Pangulong Marcos,” he added.

Amid rumors about a destabilization plot, Go stressed that the military remains a professional unit and will carry out their roles and responsibilities based on their sworn mandate and to the best of their ability.

“Ako naman po ay naniniwala na professional po ang ating mga soldiers,” said Go.

The senator continued by saying that the appointment of Eduardo Año as National Security Adviser and Carlito Galvez Jr. as defense secretary will aid in supporting the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

“Ang ating Armed Forces, with Secretary Galvez, nandidiyan, mas ma-stabilize po niya ang Department of National Defense, ang ating Armed Forces. Magaling po si Secretary Galvez, napaka-fair, level-headed at napaka-competent,” he said.

“Magaling na sundalo, magaling na secretary, at it was proven during his tenure… sa Marawi siege, napaka-level-headed, napaka-kalma po during pressure time. So ngayon, I’m sure kaya n’ya po bilang Secretary of National Defense,” he said.

On Sunday, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. affirmed Galvez’s appointment as Secretary of the Department of National Defense, citing his record of success in promoting peace and security as a major reason for his appointment.

On the other hand, Marcos made reference to Año’s “long experience in intelligence” who was appointed to the position of NSA Secretary.

Go extended his congratulations to Galvez and Año on their appointment to their respective positions.

“And, of course, congratulations din po.

Finally, Go emphasized the crucial role of the military and police in upholding democracy and protecting the will of the people.

“Ako naman po, bilang inyong senador at Vice Chairman po ng Committee on National Defense and (Committee on) Peace and Order sa Senado, hinihikayat ko po ang mga nasa Armed Forces at kapulisan na suportahan po natin ang ating Pangulong Bongbong Marcos, Jr. dahil inihalal po siya ng taumbayan,” he emphasized.

Go has long been an advocate for the rights and welfare of the military and police. Even before taking a seat in the Senate, Go, who was the Special Assistant to then president Rodrigo Duterte, was instrumental in pushing for the salary increase of all military and uniformed personnel in the government.

Go also filed Senate Bill No. 422 which shall provide free legal assistance to any officer or enlisted personnel of the AFP or PNP, who is facing before the prosecutor’s office, court or any competent body, any charge arising from an incident related to the performance of official duty.
