Stresses importance of complying with health protocols despite decreasing COVID-19 cases

THE Office of Senator Christopher “Bong” Go provided relief to struggling residents in Zamboanga City on Thursday, April 21, as part of the senator’s commitment to help uplift the lives of Filipinos adversely affected by the ongoing public health crisis.

In a video message, Go reminded the public to stay vigilant and continue following the mandated health protocols as these have been proven effective in curbing the spread of COVID-19. He then urged those eligible yet still unvaccinated to get inoculated immediately to further boost their defenses against the virus while keeping their respective communities safe.

The distribution was carried out at the Recovedo Covered Court where Go’s staff handed out snacks and masks to 392 residents. The outreach team also gave shoes and phablets to select individuals as well as bicycles for their commuting needs.

In addition, personnel from the National Housing Authority distributed housing assistance under its Emergency Housing Assistance Program.

Go, who serves as Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, offered additional support to those in need of medical attention. He also strongly advised them to visit Zamboanga City Medical Center, Mindanao Central Sanitarium, and Labuan General Hospital where there are Malasakit Centers available to help them with their hospital bills.

Institutionalized under the Malasakit Centers Act, which Go primarily authored and sponsored, the Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop that provides convenient access to the medical assistance programs of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. More than three million Filipinos have already benefited from the Malasakit Centers program since it was launched in 2018.

In the end, the senator thanked all the local public servants for their dedication and perseverance to ensure that their constituents are well-supported amid these difficult times.

As Vice Chair of the Senate Finance Committee, Go has also supported various initiatives to accelerate the development of the city, including the construction of the Sub-National Laboratory Capacity Building for Serology and Molecular Testing, and the two-story hospital building of the Camp Navarro General Hospital.

In Zamboanga del Sur, Go likewise supported the construction of multipurpose buildings in Aurora, Dimataling, Dinas, Lapuyan, Pagadian City, Pitogo, Ramon Magsaysay, Sominot and Tigbao; acquisition of multipurpose vehicles in Bayog; construction of a two-story public market in San Pablo; and the renovation of the Municipal Public Park in Tambulig.

“Mga kababayan ko, tandaan niyo po na minsan lang tayo dadaan sa mundong ito. Kung ano pong kabutihan ang pwede natin magawa sa tao ay gawin na po natin. Kami naman po ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ay nandirito lang upang magbigay ng serbisyong nararapat sa inyo,” Go concluded.
