Bolts stay alive

THERE will be a Game 7 in the PBA Philippine Cup semifinal series between San Miguel Beer and Meralco, after all.

The Bolts came back from a 10-point deficit in the final four minutes to roll back the Beermen, 96-92, in Game 6 and send the best-of-seven semifinal series into a deciding seventh game.

Chris Newsome finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and three assists for the Bolts, who rallied from 80-90 deficit with 4:23 remaining to stun the Beermen.

Aaron Black and Cliff Hodge added 17 points apiece, Chris Banchero contributed 13 points and Raymond Almazan had 11 points and seven rebounds for Meralco.

Black, who was also named as “Best Player of the Game”, also had six assists and five rebounds.

A layup by Newsome, and three-point pmays by Hodge and Black did the trick for Meralco.

Best Player of the Conference frontrunner June Mar Fajardo topscored with 23 points for San Miguel, which led by as many as 16 points.

Fajardo also had 13 rebounds,

Vic Manuel had 16 points, Marcio Lassiter had 14 points and CJ Perez had 13 points in their losing effort for Beermen.

San Miguel led, 90-80, on a driving layup by Perez with 4:23 left.

But Meralco went on a 13-0 run capped by a three-point play by Black with 31 seconds remaining for a 93-90 lead.

Perez then went 2-of-3 from the free throw line to make it 92-93 with 10 seconds left.

In the second game, TNT slammed the door on Magnolia, 87-74.

Jayson Castro fired 26 points, including a back-breaking three-pointer, as the Tropang Giga finished off the Hotshots and book a finals berth

The defending champions closed out their own best-of-seven series, 4-2.
