Bolts send Kings crashing

MERALCO brought down arch-rival Barangay Ginebra, 79-66, to close out with its ninth win in 11 matches in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup at the Don Honorio Ventura State University gym in Bacolor, Pampanga.

Although already assured of the second seed in the quarterfinals, the Bolts went all out to frustrate the undermanned Gin Kings on the final playing day of eliminations.

Mac Belo and Alvin Pasaol shared scoring honors the Meralco, finishing with 15 points apiece.

Chris Newsome added 10 points, nine rebounds and six assists and Bong Quinto contributed eight points, nine rebounds and eight assists for the Bolts, who led by as many as 19 points.

Stanley Pringle topscored for Ginebra with 19 points, followed by Christian Standhardinger with 17 points and 14 rebounds.

Despite the setback, Ginebra will have another chance to make it as the No. 8 team after NorthPort’s easy 122-94 win over Alaska Milk later in the night.

Ginebra will battle Phoenix Super LPG

In a playoff for the eighth and final spot in the quarterfinals.

The two teams actually finished in a three-way tie with Terrafirma at 4-7, but the Dyip were eliminated due to lower quotient score.

Robert Bolick finished with a triple-double of 22 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists as the Batang Pier clinched fifth place at 6-5.

The Pido Jarencio-mentored Batang Pier earned the right to meet No. 4 San Miguel in a best-of- three series.
