BoC lawyer injured in Pasay ambush

A BUREAU of Custom (BOC) lawyer was critically wounded in an ambush perpetrated by riding-in-tandem (RIT) criminals Monday evening in Pasay City.

Atty. Joseph Samuel Zapata, 30, BOC Internal and Prosecution Division investigator and resident of 128-C Capricorn St. Rainbow Village, San Isidro, Paranaque City was rushed to the Manila Doctors Hospital in UN Avenue, Ermita, Manila where he was placed under observation after treatment of a bullet wound at the back portion of his head.

A report reaching the office of Southern Police District (SPD) Director P/BGen. Jimili Macaraeg showed that while the victim was travelling the southbound lane of Macapagal Boulevard on his way home, on board his Toyota Fortuner bearing plate number NBP-7726, a motorcycle riding suspects suddenly approached the left side of the moving vehicle and shot the victim, hitting him in the back of his head at around 6 p.m.

Though wounded, the victim continued to drive but due to injury he sustained, he hit a Kia car (NBT-2523) driven by Windy Lane Ochoco of Central Bicutan, Taguig, causing damages to the vehicle while the suspects immediately sped away towards Manila.

The Pasay City police are still conducting investigation to determine the motive behind the incident while a follow-up operation was ongoing for possible identification and arrest of the suspect.
