A CONSTRUCTION worker was killed while his fellow was seriously wounded when a suspected unexploded ordnance they were tinkering with went off in Bambang, Nueva Viscaya shortly before noon Saturday, a Police Regional Office 2 report said.
PRO2 director Brig. Gen. Antonio P. Marallag Jr. identified the fatality as 42-year-old Manny Montefalco, a resident of Bgy. Baan in Aritao municipality while wounded was Jerry Carbonel, a 35-year-old Nueva Ecija resident.
An initial investigation showed that the two discovered the ordnance in a construction site in Bgy. San Antonio North in Bambang and brought it to a compound in Bgy. Almaguer South purposely to sell its steel materials in a local junkshop.
However, the device suddenly exploded while the victims were trying to open it with a grinder around 11:40 a.m. Saturday.
As a result, Montefalco died on the spot while Carbonel suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Nueva Viscaya Provincial Hospital for medical treatment.
