PALAYAN CITY – From a bullied young girl, a 19-year-old “Black Barbie” from San Jose City metamorphosed into a fine and determined woman was crowned this year’s first place winner of the “Binibining Nueva Ecija 2022” pageant competitions during the grand coronation night held at the Nueva Ecija Convention Center here.

The Miss San Jose City candidate Princes B. Lazaga, of Barangay Sibut, San Jose City, bested 21 other candidates from other cities and towns of the province to win the much-coveted crown, bagging also the “Best in Swimwear” and “Best in Evening Gown” awards, including the “Rian Fernandez Atelier Award”.

She also received a total of P120,000 cash prizes and gift certificates from the various sponsors of the beauty pageant.

“It’s like I’ve been in a metamorphosis! I’ve seen how my character and personality transmute, from a bullied young girl, to a woman who is confident and holds her own. I always say to myself that Miss San Jose City is not my final destination. It is just the start of my journey to becoming the beauty queen and the supermodel that I want to be,” said Princes, who was crowned the Miss San Jose City 2022 second-runner up last April but was chosen to vie for the city during the Bb. Nueva Ecija 2022 contest.

She revealed she had been a victim of “bullying” during her childhood days because of her “skin color.”

“From this experience, I have learned to love myself and embrace my faults and imperfections because I realized that beauty is diverse and has no definite standards and no matter what your skin color is, no matter what you look like, no matter what your size is or shape as long as you know how to embrace yourself, you can make a difference,” she stressed.

Lazaga also thanked City Mayor Mario “Kokoy” Salvador, Vice Mayor Alexis “Ali” Salvador, city tourism officer Darmo Escuadro, and city information officer Jacky Francisco for their full support in her Bb. Nueva Ecija 2022 journey.

“Tunay ngang sa ganitong patimpalak, may ‘negrang’ tatatak,” Princes said.

Also crowned winners were Xandra Loi Guingon, 1st Runner-up and Patricia Convento, 2nd Runner-up, both from Cabanatuan City, and the 3rd runner-up, Jessica Peralta, of San Isidro.

The Bb. Nueva Ecija 2022 Tourism and the BBNE 2022 Culture and Heritage awards went to Michela Nicole Rivera of the Science City of Muñoz, and Aaliyah Jewel Suni-en, of Llanera, respectively.

Winners of the Special Awards were Patricia Convento (Best in Casual Wear/Ms. Lenscab Photography), Xandra Loi De Ramos (Best in Provincial Costume, People’s Choice Award, Ms. Glutaland 2022), Jessica Peralta (Best in Talent, Ms. Highland Bali), Baby Jane Sison (Miss Photogenic), Lein Ann Valdez (Miss Congeniality), Melissa Cajucom (Ms. Microtel), Allura Faye Mercado (Ms. Glowskin), Avelar Daquial for Best Designer/Couturier of Long Gown, Bryan Diego (Best Designers/Couturier of Provincial Costume, and Vastery Artistry (Best Make-up Artist).
