Bicol’s MWP killed in Albay shootout

ONE of Bicol region’s most wanted communist rebels was killed in a gunfight with policemen out to arrest him in Daraga, Albay on Saturday afternoon, Area Police Command-Southern Luzon director, Major General Rhoderick C. Armamento said Sunday.

Citing a report from Police Regional Office 5 (PRO5) director, Brigadier Gen. Mario A. Reyes, the official identified the arrested suspect as Antonio Abadeza alias ‘Flaptop/Alden/Troy.’

Members of the PRO5 Regional Mobile Force Battalion and Regional Intelligence Division, Albay Police Provincial Office’s Provincial Intelligence Unit and 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company and the Army’s 9th Military Intelligence Company tracked down the suspect in Zone 7, Barangay Anislag shortly after noon Saturday.

At around 3 :30 in the afternoon, the lawmen moved to arrest the suspect who was driving a motorcycle. However, the later sensed the movement of the officers and fired shots at the lawmen who were forced to retaliate killing, him on the spot.

A loaded firearm was recovered from the possession of the slain suspect.

“We have neutralized an elusive NPA member included in the PRO5’s Periodic Status Report in the wake of our stepped-up effort to account for all wanted persons in Bicol. This is also the result of our inter-unit cooperation and collaboration to address the anti-terrorism and anti-criminality programs of the Philippine National Police under Officer-in-Charge, Lieutenant General Vicente D.
