A TOTAL of 268 wanted suspects in Bicol were arrested by agents of the Police Regional Office 5 (PRO5) in a single-day anti-criminality operation in the region this week, PRO5 Director Brigadier General Rudolph B. Dimas told the Journal Group on Thursday.

The official said that the arrests were made following the day-long conduct of “Simultaneous Anti-Criminality Law Enforcement Operations” (SACLEO) in the region in line with the directive of Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr. to account for all wanted persons in the country.

Dimas said that 21 of the most wanted persons at the city and municipal level in Bicol were among those arrested.

The others arrested include seven wanted and alleged New People’s Army (NPA) members, a barangay captain, and a kagawad.

The most wanted persons arrested were the subject of warrants for various major offenses, including murder, drug trafficking, rape, and homicide, some of them facing non-bailable charges upon the recommendation of different Bicol regional trial courts.

Dimas said that also arrested during the conduct of their SACLEO, previously known as the PNP “One-Time, Big-Time” anti-criminality operations, were two known big-time drug traffickers in Bicol who yielded a total of 111 grams of high-grade shabu worth P754,000.

One of the suspects was arrested in a buy-bust operation, while the other was arrested during the service of a search warrant for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, he said.

Dimas said that one man was also arrested during the region-wide anti-criminality drive for illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition. The suspect is now facing a case for violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013, he said.

The Bicol Police director earlier committed to further enhancing their partnership with the community to further help address criminality, drugs, insurgency, and corruption thru his “ROD” program, which is short for “Readiness in all aspects of policing, Opportunity for everyone to shine and Discipline”.

Dimas vowed to anchor his leadership in the “MKK=K” – framework of PNP Chief Gen. Azurin, short for “Malasakit, Kaayusan, Kapayapaan equal Kaunlaran”.

He also called on his men to practice the “Client-centered police” simply because the community is “the reason” for their being.

The PRO5 director said he wants to maximize the deployment of police personnel in the region to help prevent and solve criminality.
