THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) again cautioned foreign nationals in the country against taking part in rallies and other political demonstrations.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente issued the reminder in connection with Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.’s presidential inauguration on Thursday.

“Foreigners should steer clear from political engagements so as to avoid being charged with violating immigration laws here in the country,” said Morente.

BI policies prohibit foreigners from “joining, supporting, contributing, or involving themselves in whatever manner in any rally, assembly, or gathering” while in the Philippines.

According to Morente, they issued the warning to prevent a repeat of past incidents wherein they had to deport and blacklist foreigners who participated in partisan political activities.

“Foreigners who were caught joining political demonstrations in the past have shown disrespect to our country’s authorities,” added Morente.

“Foreigners are prohibited from engaging in partisan political activities. Those who will be caught will be deported and blacklisted,” he warned.
