Bgy chief dies, wife hurt in Caloocan ambush

A BARANGAY captain was killed while his wife was wounded in a gun attack perpetrated by two riding-in-tandem criminals Monday evening in Caloocan City.

Caloocan police chief P/Col. Samuel Mina said Gerardo Ragos Apostol, 56, village chairman of Barangay 143 and resident of 55 Malolos Avenue, Bagong Barrio, died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds in the body while his wife Evelyn, 56 was rushed to Manila Central University (MCU) Hospital for treatment of bullet wound in the right ankle.

Investigation conducted by P/Cpl. Anthony Wanawan showed that while Chairman Ragos was sitting in front of the Apostol Rice and Egg Store they owned and located along Malolos Avenue, Brgy. 143, armed suspects, on board a motorcycle arrived at around 6:12 p.m., and parked in front of the store.

A store helper, told police that one of the suspects alighted from the motorcycle and shot the victim repeatedly in the body, killing him instantly.

The victim’s wife who witnessed the incident tried to embrace her husband but one of the suspects shot her on her right ankle before escaping.

Responding elements of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) will submit several empty shells recovered from the crime scene to the Northern Police District (NPD) Crime Laboratory for ballistic examination.

Police are eyeing several angles, including politics and personal grudge, as the motives for the killing.
