A RANKING Land Transportation Office (LTO) official warned the public against online scammers offering hassle-free processing of driver’s license applications.

LTO-National Capital Region-West and Law Enforcement Service director Atty. Clarence V. Guinto issued the warning after joint personnel of LTO-LES and PNP-Cybercrime group arrested the “brain” behind the illegal activity in an entrapment operation.

Guinto identified the suspect as Jomar Bucal, 26, alias Lyka Mendoza Bautista, of Block 112 Lot 17, Phase 3 Paliparan, Dasmariñas, Cavite.

Guinto said Bucal will be charged with computer-related identity theft of Republic Act 10275, Usurpation of Authority and Using fictitious name and concealing true name or the Cybercrime Prevention Act 2021. In the entrapment, LTO-LES and PNP-Cybercrime group recovered one cellular phone, P1,000 marked money, transaction slipa and several social media account documents claiming Bucal is a bonafide employee of the LTO-South District Office offering hassle-free driver’s license applications .

Alex Soneja, chief of LTO-team leader, said the suspect is now detained at the Camp Crame.

Guinto said Bucal used the Facebook account of a legitimate LTO employee in his illegal activities.

“Nakuha niya ‘yung isang FB account ng isang LTO employee tapos ‘yun ang ginamit niya sa illegal na gawain.

“The agency would like to reiterate to the public to always go through the proper process and legal manner of availing o LTO service,” Guinto said.

“Sumunod po tayo sa tamang process para makaiwas sa abala at panloloko ng mga taong walang ginawa manlamang ng kapwa,” Guinto added.
