THREE Benguet policewomen on Saturday were commended by Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar for helping a woman safely deliver her baby amid the pandemic last September 29.

The three were identified as Lieutenant Michelle de los Reyes and Corporals Desiree Sabelo and Irene Comising, all of the Itogon Municipal Police Station.

A report from Cordillera Police Regional Office director, Brigadier Gen. Ronald O. Lee said that last Wednesday, the Itogon police received a call requesting for assistance as a woman was about to give birth in Barangay Antamok.

The three officers immediately went to the area where they found the woman already lying on the floor. Guided by instinct, Lt. de los Reyes assisted the woman by holding her and guiding her throughout her delivery.

Corporals Sabelo and Comising also helped in the delivery of a healthy baby boy.

The three later brought the woman and her baby to the Baguio General Hospital where they received proper medical attention.

“Hindi ito ang unang beses na nangyari ito. Patunay lamang ito na hindi lang sa pagtugis ng kriminal at pagpapanatili ng kapayapaan at kaayusan maasahan ang pulis kundi pati na rin sa halos lahat ng klaseng tulong na pwede nating maipaabot sa ating mga kababayan,” Gen. Eleazar said.

“This is the true meaning of police service that we vowed to uphold bilang mga Pulis ng Pilipino,” he added.
