Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte yesterday assured the family of a slain former editor of a tabloid newspaper that full power of the law will be applied for the immediate arrest of the perpetrators of the crime.

In a statement, Belmonte also condemned the killing saying that the victim, Gwen Salamida, was a beloved member of the media, an honest business owner, and an upstanding QCitizen.

“We fervently condemn her brutal murder. On behalf of the Quezon City Government and the QC Police District (QCPD), we would like to assure the victims’ respective families that we will be applying the full power of the law to hunt down the perpetrator of this heinous crime, so that justice will be swift and immediate,” Belmonte said.

Investigation showed that a gunman shot dead Salamida, former editor of Remate tabloid, after barging into her beauty salon in Bgy. Apolonio Samson on Tuesday afternoon.

Salamida’s coworker, Oliver Perona, was also shot and injured. He is currently being treated at the QC General Hospital.

Belmonte assured the family of Perona that attending doctors are doing their best to make his condition better.

“Our QCPD-Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit has already concluded its initial investigation and has commenced further steps to identify and apprehend the suspect,” Belmonte said.

“Asahan niyo pong hindi namin ito bibitiwan,” the mayor added.
