BBM visits UAE
DESPITE President Marcos hectic schedule, he flies tomorrow to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a one-day working visit.
It was initially planned as a four-day working visit to oil-rich UAE, where 700,00 Filipinos, men and women, are employed.
The region is the second most popular destination for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) after the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
President Marcos is expected to meet with UAE President Sheikh Mohamerd bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the emir of Abu Dhabi.
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) described the visit as “having a “lean party but a high purpose.”
Marcos had earlier ordered government offices and agencies not to hold extravagant and lavish Christmas parties.
“Talagang tama lang ang order ni Pangulong Marcos na kailangang magtipid dahil kailangan ng gobyerno ng sapat na pondo,” a village worker said.
In fact, Marcos decided to immediately fly back to Manila “to resume his personal supervision and inspection of the relief and reconstruction activities in communities by six successive typhoons.”
The Chief Executive was supposed to visit Dubai, UAE last December for the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
However, the visit was cancelled after 17 Filipino seafarers were abducted in the Red Sea and held hostage by Houthi rebels.
