SARRAT, Ilocos Norte – FERDINAND Alexander “Sandro” Marcos, Jr., eldest son of former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., on late Tuesday afternoon declared his congressional bid for the 1st District of Ilocos Norte.

“Today (Tuesday), I officially announced my candidacy to run for congressman in order to serve the 1st District of Ilocos Norte. I thank you for all the support and heed your call to serve our beloved province,” Marcos, 27, said during his speech here.

Sandro, an economic consultant of the Ilocos Norte provincial government, vowed to give the best that he can in serving the 1st District of Ilocos Norte and level the service that the Marcoses delivered for the province.

“If they were happy with the things that transpired during their terms, I can almost guarantee that they will get the same from me,” Sandro said.

Earlier, Bongbong Marcos said his British-educated eldest son Sandro Marcos is very much qualified to run for Congress and has been learning a lot about the House of Representatives’ legislative mill under the guidance of House Majority Leader and Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin G. Romualdez.

Marcos said his cousin, Romualdez has been playing a powerful role in mentoring Sandro on the House of Representatives’ daily grind, including strategies to expedite the passage of President Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte and House leadership’s priority measures.

Sandro was joined by his cousin, Ilocos Norte Gov. Matthew Manotoc and Bongbong Marcos when he made the announcement to run for Congress.

The young Marcos earned his master’s degree in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

He is the eldest of three sons of Bongbong Marcos and Atty. Louise “Liza” Araneta Marcos.

He is the grandson of the late President Ferdinand Marcos and former First Lady and Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Romualdez Marcos.

The announcement of Sandro was made here, the birthplace of ex-President Marcos.

The 1st District was the same district that Bongbong Marcos, Sen. Imee Marcos and the former First Lady served during their stints in Congress.

The 1st District is currently being occupied by Ilocos Norte Rep. Ria Fariñas, daughter of former House Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo “Rudy” Fariñas, Sr.
