THE camp of president-in-waiting Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. (BBM), on Wednesday, acknowledged with the deepest gratitude the concession of some presidential candidates who accepted defeat and recognized his victory following his unassailable impending landslide victory in the just-concluded May 9 presidential polls.

In a statement, Atty. Vic Rodriguez, Marcos’ chief of staff and spokesperson, said the presidential bets’ call for respect for the election results, appeal for people not to join any disturbance, unity, and support for those chosen by the electorate is “highly commendable and shows their quality statesmanship and genuine patriotism.”

“Indeed, the mode to drive forward without any delay right after the conclusion of this political exercise should be the case. As we all agree and recognize that the will of the people is law, we also recognize that we are facing inevitable challenges ahead as a nation,” Rodriguez also said.

The latest results from the Comelec (Commission on Elections) transparency server showed Marcos is heeded to a “landslide” victory after garnering more than 31 million votes against more than 14 million of Vice President Leni Robredo.

Among the earliest to concede is Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, who is consistently at fourth in the count.

“Mayroon na pong pinili ang taumbayan. Sa kasalukuyan ay nais kong batiin si dating Senador Ferdinand Marcos sa kanyang pangunguna at patuloy na pangunguna. Congratulations po sa inyo,” said Moreno.

Also, last May 10, Sen. Manny Pacquiao, who placed third in the latest counting, accepted his defeat to Marcos.

“Marunong akong tumanggap ng pagkatalo. Sana lang, kahit talo ako sa laban na ito, panalo pa rin ang mga kapwa ko Pilipino, yung mga naghihirap,” Pacquiao said.

Sa ating susunod na Pangulong Bongbong Marcos, ako’y nananalangin sa tagumpay ng inyong administrasyon na maraming mahihirap ang mai-angat ang buhay at matulungan,” the presidential bet added.

Sen. Panfilo Lacson also said that he accepted defeat as he intends to go home to be with his family.

“I would like to thank my family, friends, and supporters. I enjoin my supporters to help the incoming administration of our president-elect. I also ask my supporters not to join any group that would cause trouble for the new administration,” Lacson stated.

Another presidential candidate, labor leader Leody de Guzman also conceded defeat. “Tulad din ng iba, tanggap ko yung pagkatalo ko sa eleksyong ito,” he said.

Rodriguez said they are offering the unifying leadership of Marcos and his UniTeam to move forward in the next six years.

“Together, as one race, as one nation, we shall rise pure in our common resolve to face our destiny of securing our solid position in the family of nations. Let this be the beginning of great things to come for the Philippines,” Rodriguez stressed. By Ryan Ponce Pacpaco
