Batangas village chief nabbed for guns, ammo

A 49-YEAR-OLD incumbent village chairman was arrested for possession of guns and ammo after he was served with a search warrant in his residence in Sto. Tomas City, Batangas the other day.

Sto. Tomas Police Station Chief PLt. Col. Alfie M. Salang identified the suspect as Gerry Punzalan, married, incumbent Bgy. Chairman, and resident of Bgy. San Felix, this city.

Combined elements of Sto. Tomas CPS, the lead unit, and the Batangas Patrol Intelligence Unit (PIU) led by PMaj. Alfonso P. Saligumba III served a search warrant issued by Vice Executive Judge Nevic C. Adolfo, of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 83, Fourth Judicial Region, in Tanauan City, Batangas dated February 4, 2022, against the suspect at 9:30 a.m. in Bgy. San Felix.

Two PNP-issued Body Worn Cameras (BWC) were utilized during the entire duration of the implementation of the search warrant and witnessed by two village councilmen named Ponterio Malijan and Joseph Malipol.

The team said they seized one Colt Caliber 45 with the chamber loaded, some magazines, several pieces of live bullets, one gray sling bag stuffed with 28 live bullets, one box full of live ammo, short and long magazines with ammo for cal. 5.56 rifle.

Also confiscated, one loaded Springfield cal. 30 rifle with fourteen clips, a box containing 88 pieces of live bullets, and a shotgun also recovered at the scene.
