Batangas chief tanod shot dead in broad daylight

A 57-YEAR-OLD chief watchman was mercilessly shot by unknown assailants while on his tricycle parked along the street in Tanauan City, Batangas Wednesday afternoon.

Tanauan City police identified the victim as Bgy. Altura chief watchman Gregorio Atienza y Parra.

Police said the incident occurred in Bgy. Altura South around 12:10 p.m. on July 7.

Atienza, investigators learned, was on his parked tricycle when the motorcycle-riding suspects suddenly approached and shot him.

The victim immediately jumped off his tricycle and tried to evade them, but he was chased by the suspects and shot again.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of the body that caused his instantaneous death, while the suspects fled in an unknown direction after the incident.

Police dragnet operation is being conducted for the possible apprehension of the fleeing suspects.

Police recovered two caliber 45 fired cartridge casings at the scene.
