A House leader accused the Duterte camp of spreading fake news in an attempt to divert public attention from the serious allegations outlined in the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.
House Assistant Majority Leader and Taguig City Rep. Pammy Zamora made the statement after Malacañang rebuked former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for making baseless claims that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. allegedly stole and sold the country’s gold reserves.
“Ang mga Duterte, halatang-halata na ang galawan. Para silang nakikipagkarera sa paggawa ng fake news para lang malunod sa ingay ang mga mabibigat na alegasyon laban kay VP Sara,” Zamora said.
The House leader accused the Duterte camp of using every trick in the book to shift the discussion away from the impeachment case.
“Gusto nilang iligaw ang usapan para mapagtakpan ang mabibigat na akusasyong hindi nila kayang sagutin. Hindi na bago ang ganitong diskarte nila,” she added.
Zamora pointed out that this is not the first time former President Duterte has allegedly peddled false claims to manipulate public perception.
“Nitong buwan lang, sinabi niyang mas maraming trabaho raw noong panahon niya, pero kung babalikan natin ang datos, maraming Pilipino na ang may trabaho sa ilalim ng administrasyong Marcos,” she stressed.
She cited data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showing that the unemployment rate under the Marcos administration stood at 3.82% in 2024, a sharp decline from 10.26% in 2020, during Duterte’s presidency.
“Ito ang panawagan natin sa kampo ng mga Duterte: itigil niyo na ang pangangarap na kaya niyong lunurin ng fake news ang mabibigat na kaso sa inyo,” Zamora emphasized. “Harapin niyo ang mga akusasyon, dahil hindi mababago ng propaganda ang katotohanan.”
Among the most serious charges in the articles of impeachment is VP Duterte’s alleged misuse of ₱612.5 million in confidential funds during her tenure as Vice President and Education Secretary.
“Hindi biro ang paggamit ng milyun-milyong pondo na walang maayos na paliwanag o dokumentasyon. Hindi ito simpleng pagkukulang sa proseso—ito ay malinaw na paglabag sa tiwala ng publiko,” Zamora said. “Ang pondo ng bayan ay dapat gamitin nang may pananagutan, hindi parang sariling alkansya.”
Another key accusation is that Duterte conspired to harm President Marcos, raising national security concerns.
“Ang pagkakaroon ng sabwatan para saktan ang Pangulo ay hindi simpleng usapin lang ng pulitika—ito ay banta sa seguridad ng bansa.”
She further stressed: “Ang death threat ay hindi fake news, pero parehong nakakasama sa tao at sa bayan.”
Zamora called on the Senate to immediately commence the impeachment trial before the Duterte camp’s misinformation campaign distorts the truth.
“Kailangang simulan na ang impeachment trial bago pa malunod ang bansa sa baha ng fake news ng mga Duterte,” she said. “The impeachment trial is the proper venue to address these serious allegations. Para magkaalaman na kung sino talaga ang nagsasabi ng totoo.”
She emphasized that this fight goes beyond any individual—it is about safeguarding the integrity of Philippine democracy.
“Hindi ito simpleng laban sa isang tao, kundi laban para sa integridad ng ating demokrasya. Ang bayan ang may karapatang malaman ang katotohanan, at walang sinuman ang dapat makatakas sa pananagutan.”
