HOPING to produce a better result in the second Premier Volleyball League conference, Sta. Lucia on late Thursday appointed Edgar Barroga as its new head coach.

Barroga took over from Eddieson Orcullo, who was replaced after the Lady Realtors placed fifth in their maiden stint in the now-professional league.

“First of all, medyo overwhelmed ako. Unang-una kasi hindi ko ine-expect na matawagan ako at i-offer sa akin yung position,” Barroga said in an interview with Tiebreaker Times.

“Siyempre, sino naman ang tatanggi sa akin diyan kasi maganda yung company at may potential yung players. Hindi na ako nagdalawang isip at excited na ako,” he added.

Prior from being hired by Sta. Lucia at the helm, Barroga’s most recent club coaching stint was with Cignal in 2019. Barroga is also handling Nazareth School of National University high school boys volleyball program.

“We can’t wait to see the collaboration between our new coach, our management, and the Lady Realtors!” the club posted on its social media account.

On paper, Sta. Lucia has a roster that can go toe to toe with the league’s heavyweights in Chery Tiggo, Creamline and PetroGazz.

The Lady Realtors have outside hitter MJ Phillips and middle blocker Dell Palomata, who are currently with the national training poll.

Mika Reyes, Jonah Sabete, Jovie Prado, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, setter Djanel Cheng and libero Bang Pineda are also vital part of Sta. Lucia’s rotation.

The PVL is plotting for its second tournament for the year either in late October or early November.
